    SALES USE CASE

    Sales Teams and Client Relationships

A salesperson's working life is the phone: chasing a lead between meetings, returning a client's call from the car, closing from wherever the day ends. Most of it happens on their personal mobile, because that is the phone that is there.

Which means the number a client learns to trust belongs to the salesperson — and one day it walks out of the building with them. This use case sets out what changes when the business line sits on the phone the salesperson already carries.

    Solution Highlights

    • The client's number belongs to the business
    • Calls answered by whoever is covering
    • Deal conversations on the platform's record
    • One phone — personal stays personal

    The Challenge

Every deal builds a relationship, and every relationship settles on a number. When that number is personal, the client's habit of ringing it is an asset the business does not own. A departure — to a competitor, often — takes the route to the customer with it.

The day-to-day is no better. Calls from unrecognised personal numbers go unanswered; a client whose account manager is on holiday rings a phone on a beach; and none of the conversations that move a deal along leave any trace in the company's systems.

    The Solution

Each salesperson carries a business line on their own handset, delivered by eSIM. Outbound calls show the company's number, so clients answer a name they recognise; the personal number stays out of circulation entirely.

Because the line is an extension of the company's phone system, availability is managed rather than improvised. Holiday, illness or a day of back-to-back meetings becomes a routing decision: calls overflow to a colleague or to sales support, and the client is handled instead of ringing out.

When someone leaves, the line is reassigned to their successor the same day. The client dials the number they have always dialled and reaches the person now holding the account — the relationship stays where the business built it.

    What Changes

The first change is ownership. The route to every client belongs to the company, so a resignation stops being a quiet transfer of the customer base.

The second is coverage. A client can always reach someone empowered to help, which is the difference between a held deal and a competitor's opening.

The third is visibility. Calls that used to vanish into personal phones sit on the platform — retrievable when a commitment is questioned, and countable when managers want to know where the pipeline's time actually goes.

    Sales Teams and Client Relationships

    Key Changes

    • Client numbers stay with the business
    • Cover for holidays handled by routing
    • Deal calls retrievable afterwards
    • No second handset for the salesperson

    Assessment

Nine questions about your own sales operation. The ones you can't answer are the ones worth looking into.

    How it works today

    • What number do your top ten clients actually ring?
    • What happens to a client call during the account manager's holiday?
    • How did the last leaver's clients find their new contact?

    What it is costing

    • How many client calls a week happen on personal phones?
    • How much of that activity appears anywhere in your systems?
    • Which accounts followed a departing salesperson last year?

    What would change

    • What would you check if a phone commitment were disputed?
    • Which team would you pilot on first?
    • Which numbers would you want back from personal phones tomorrow?

Sales is the department where the phone is the product, and where the business has quietly let its client relationships settle on numbers it does not own. Moving the line onto the phones salespeople already carry keeps the habit and changes the owner.

The accounts that stay after the next resignation are the measure of it.
