HOSPITALITY USE CASE
Housekeeping and Room Status
Housekeeping is the largest department in most hotels and the least reachable. A room attendant works a floor at a time, hands full, with no desk and no telephone that belongs to them. Room-ready calls, guest requests and lost property all have to reach them somehow.
What fills the gap is a two-way radio, a shared handset at the linen store, and a supervisor's personal mobile. This use case sets out what changes when the business line sits on the phone the attendant already carries.

Solution Highlights
- Business line on the attendant's own phone
- Requests route to a person, not a channel
- Every call on the platform's record
- Nothing to charge, issue or recover
The Challenge
Room status is a timing problem. The front desk needs to know a room is ready, the attendant needs to know a guest has checked out early, and a request for towels in 214 needs to reach whoever is nearest. Today that traffic runs over radios that everyone hears, a shared handset that is usually somewhere else, and personal numbers passed around by hand.
None of it reaches the phone system. There is no record of who took a request or when, so a disputed lost-property claim comes down to memory, and a slow turnaround cannot be traced to the point it stalled.
The Solution
Each attendant is issued a business line that lives on the handset they already carry, delivered by eSIM so no hardware changes hands. The line is an extension of the property's phone system, so it can be dialled internally, put in a hunt group, and reached from the front desk like any other.
In use it behaves like an ordinary mobile. There is no application to open and nothing to log into, which matters for a workforce that turns over quickly and works in gloves. A guest request goes to the attendant covering that floor rather than to everyone on a channel.
Rollout follows the shift pattern rather than the IT calendar. A supervisor adds a starter in the morning and the line works the same day; a leaver is removed the same way, with no handset to chase.
What Changes
The first change is where the traffic goes. Requests reach a named person on a floor instead of a channel everybody hears and nobody owns, so the room-ready message and the towel request stop competing for the same airtime.
The second is the record. Because the calls run through the platform, who handled which request and when is retrievable afterwards. A lost-property dispute has something behind it other than recollection.
The third is the equipment. The radio fleet, the chargers and the shared handset stop being things somebody has to issue at the start of a shift and account for at the end.

Key Changes
- Requests reach a person, not a channel
- Call history behind every guest request
- No radios to issue, charge or recover
- Starters and leavers handled the same day
Assessment
Nine questions about your own property. The ones you can't answer are the ones worth looking into.
How it works today
- How does a room-ready message reach the front desk today?
- What does an attendant carry, and who issues it?
- How does a guest request reach the floor it is on?
What it is costing
- How many radios and chargers are in circulation across the property?
- How many go missing or run flat in a typical month?
- How much housekeeping call activity appears in your reporting?
What would change
- What would you check if a lost-property claim were disputed?
- How long does it take to set up a new starter?
- Which floor or shift would you pilot on?
Housekeeping is where a property's service standard is actually delivered, and it is the department the phone system reaches least. Putting a business line on the handset the attendant already carries closes that gap without issuing anybody a second device.
The same approach extends to engineering, the front desk and the rest of the property, so housekeeping is a sensible place to start rather than a special case.
