The Next Chapter of Enterprise Mobility
To our employees, customers, and partners who've been part of this dance for 20 years – thank you. Here's to the next 20.
Letter from the Co-Founder, CTO & CISO
In 2005, Doug and I met at a restaurant in Plano, Texas, with a simple but stubborn question in mind: why couldn't my existing mobile phone connect to the corporate voice system we already had? That conversation became Tango Networks.
We incorporated on 30 September 2005 in Granite Park, setting up inside another start-up's office. Our original tagline, "Mobility for Enterprise," still sums up what we do today. From the start, we believed in a universal idea: any mobile phone, on any mobile network, connected to any PBX. We filed patents on our unique integration technology before the original iPhone arrived, and we've continued to innovate — today we hold 125+ granted patents with more in the pipeline.
We were fortunate to convince Lathan Lewis to leave Nortel to join us early on, and many of the people who helped build Tango in those first years are still here: Robert Barretto, Mark Sosebee, Mike Bishop, Andy & Ben Williams, Steve Tryon, Daren Broussard, Don Traister, and others depending how far back you go. Our culture has always mattered from Tangoween and Tangomas to trade shows with tango dancers at CTIA 2006/2007.
Our first big customer launch came in 2008 with Sprint Mobile Integration. Soon after, Ericsson helped bring Tango to market with AT&T Office Direct and T-Mobile Office Connect. We expanded to Europe with EE's "Freedom" in the UK and KPN's "VAMO" in the Netherlands. In 2018, we partnered with Simetric Telecom under Gavin Sweet and John Murray and ultimately brought the teams together to create the next chapter of Tango as a global mobile operator focused on enterprise mobility.
Under Doug's steadfast leadership with Gavin by his side, our Global Private Mobile Network and Tango Extend are now available in 40 countries, operating in 140+, and integrated with leading UC/UCaaS platforms. And we're still guided by the same embrace that inspired our name — connecting two partners: the mobile network and the enterprise. I'm not much of a dancer, but I've always loved that image. Thank you for being part of Tango's first 20 years, and the dance ahead.
— Andrew Silver, Co-Founder, CTO & CISO
